Mountain & Singlespeed Bikes Welcome!

We just want to confirm that mountain bikes are very welcome at our cyclocross races. Single speed riders are also welcome as Some courses depending on the weather can actually give single speed riders a clear advantage. In fact your welcome to bring along any bike you choose providing it doesn't have a motor! This applies to all races run A, B and kids race.
We are promoting this new sport to the Hawkes Bay Region and want to give everyone the opportunity to have a crack and participate.

We are well aware that there are only a few cyclocross bikes in the region so as the sport grows we want to encourage as many participants as we can.

We and most of the public are well aware that you can source a cyclocross bike from your local bike shop usually by special order or can modify an existing touring type bike.
Trademe is an option or alternatively we encourage those who have cyclocross items they wish to sell to bring them along. There will be a lot of people around on Sunday who can offer advice and thanks to local radio stations and the Hawkes Bay Today we should have it well publicised.

Anyone who still requires further information can email us at blackpeloton@gmail.com, send us a message on facebook to CXHB or just call into your local bike shop and they should be able to help out.

Finally just a message of advice these sort of events: Historically cyclocross events are held in very muddy conditions, therefore you will most likely get very dirty! Its a chance to wallow in the mud with a lot of other people on bikes, there will be all sorts of obstacles such as logs or barriers to jump, stairs to climb & grassy paddocks to ride through.

Make sure you bring a change of clothes, towel and a plastic bag to put all your dirty clothes into, often things like a scrub brush or a bucket can be helpful when washing down.
Water and hoses will be provided close to finish line as will be changing facilities and toilets.

So good luck and we hope to see you at EIT this coming Sunday 10am for some good old fashioned fun.

Course Map EIT 26th June 1st CXHB Race

GPS map of proposed EIT CX course for the 26th June..In its current form it measures 1.6km.We reckon it will be around 5-6 mins for the fast guys as it is, once we add a few barriers etc . There's plenty of toilets just 50 mtrs from the start, and we have an electric jet washer that we will have available for washing down bikes.

There will be a kids race run in between the two events so if have little ones and they want to have a go bring them along.

Training Thursday night Pettigrew Arena.

CX training this week Thursday 16th June, we will meet in the car park behind Pettigrew Arena at 6pm dont forget your lights.
Also this Sunday 19th June 10am at the same venue as above,
We will cover several parks, beaches, and river bank areas practising technique and remount/dismounts.
All welcome would be nice to have a few more starters so anyone who is keen to race should come to training. The tips you can learn in one session can make a world of difference.

Take advantage of riding along side a former Great Britain cyclocross coach and sports physiologist Carl Paton, in form Dan Warren and the rest of the CXHB fraternity...

See you there.

Dan Warren 2nd at Trentham CX Race.

Dan Warren managed a great second place in the first race of the Bike Hutt Cyclocross series at Trentham, Wellington. Carl Paton also scored a great finish a little further back in 7th place. Having to deal with very wet mud riders were probably carrying an extra 2 or 3kg of mud during the race as a result of wet pre race conditions in the days leading up to the event.
The leaders managed 8 laps of the course which included field riding, stairs, a technical bush section and several jumps. A great result leading up to CXHB's first race on the 26th June at EIT.
Warren led on the first lap but was passed by strong contender Alex Revell who went on to win, with Warren about 40 seconds back.
